announcements Nov 27

1)      Replays of major services upon request
Currently, we have the Festival of Oneness, Saisho Ceremony at Yuon Center, Saito Homa (all of them the FULL version from Japan) as the services that practitioners can request to see at both the NY temple and the Shinnyo Center.  Please contact the temple office at either location to make an appointment.

2)      Service and event times at the Shinnyo Center
We are exploring the options of what works best for times for the evening events, both for the public (i.e. guided meditation and Shinnyo Meditation) as well as for the practitioners (services, Chiryu Gakuin lectures, GDM video viewings)
For this reason, you may have seen the times change in November and December; please let us know if you have any thoughts on the times.  We do plan to review them, and reassess the start times starting in the month of January.
Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause for the time being!

3)      Sesshin Training at the Shinnyo Center
We have started to introduce dates where we have Sesshin by Reservation.  In addition, we will be making private sesshins available at services whenever possible, including up to Kantei.  Please contact the temple/center or check our blog for updates.

SUN DEC 1 sesshin is available to KANTEI (no reservations necessary)

4)      Moving from the BLOG to a new WEBSITE
Some of you might have already seen and are using the site, but we have a webpage that has been made for the Shinnyo Center that will serve also as the place where practitioners can access the most updated schedules (for both the temple/center) as well as announcements previously seen on the blog.
The schedules are accessible to anyone, but the blog screen is password-protected.  In order to access this page, please do the following:

Go to the http://www.shinnyo-ny.org/ page and click on “sign in” which is at the top right of the screen.
If this is your first time, you will need to register to create your own login info.  Please click on “register” and follow the instructions.
Once you have registered, you should be able to log in on the “sign in” page with your username and password.
When you have logged in, you can access the “members page” at the top right of the screen.  You will be able to see the most recent updates and info on that page.

Feedback from the Lantern Floating etc?

We will have Mr. Kaz Kubo, one of the chief coordinators of the events (Lantern Floating for Peace, Shinnyo Celebration on the Equinox) at the NY temple on Sat Sept 28 to listen to any feedback from those who participated in the past weekend's events.
He is scheduled to be around all day, so please feel free to catch him and share your thoughts/suggestions/opinions to make our future event even better!

Thanks!

Thank you to all for your help!

To: leaders and practitioners in the Shinnyo Sangha in/and/around the NY temple

I just wanted to send a short “thank you” message to all of you who made this past weekend’s series of events memorable ones for those who could join us for them.
Without the support, cooperation, and leadership you’ve shown, I don’t think we could have done what we achieved together.
It is truly a blessing and an honor to have had the opportunity to welcome the “entire world”(!) in NY with you all, and to start marching forward in spreading friendship and harmony around us along side our spiritual leader Keishu Shinso!
As she now heads back to Japan, I look forward in our continued partnership and collaborations to truly do “our part” and support Her Holiness through our actions!

In ONE HEART,

Eitaro

Thank you message from the Gohoshi Team Leaders at Central Park

Dear Gohoshi Member,
We would like to express our deep and sincere appreciation to you for all your hard work at the Lantern Floating Ceremony. It was a wonderful day and evening and it would not have happened without your efforts and achievement. We accomplished a great number of things on Sunday starting with setting up the workshops area, greetings hundreds of visitors from Japan and Overseas, greeted and helped close to 1,000 visitors from the public and then amazingly assembled over 800 lanterns and gift bags for the guests of the actual ceremony in only 45 minutes! Throughout it all, you kept up a big smile, greeted people warmly and presented a wonderful “face” of Shinnyo-en New York. For that we are truly grateful and deeply thankful. In the future, if the US Government or the City of New York needs something to be done, they should call on us if they want a professional and quality job!
So, thank you again for your kindness and wonderful spirit of collaboration. It was an outstanding achievement.

Sincerely,

Sae Kim and Chris Forte

Continued prayers for people in Boston

Hello Boston Sangha- we’re continuing to extend prayers for the safety of all in the greater Boston area with eveyrthing that has ensued over the night and into today.
Please continue to follow instructions of city/government officials, and also stay in good communication with one another.

Should you feel the need, please contact us at the NY temple at (914) 421-1111, and the staff will be happy to speak to you.

Needless to say, these are trying times… Whenever possible, we would like to continue praying in “one heart” with Her Holiness Keishu Shinso for everyone’s safety, by ways of reciting the sandai in our hearts, chanting, etc.

We will continue to do the same in NY.

Prayers for the victims and those affected by the bombings in Boston...

To our Shinnyo family in the Boston Area:

We are truly saddened by the incident; and at the same time, are sending prayers each morning and night for the repose of the victims, as well as for the swift recovery of all those affected by the bombing.

During the monthly merit transfer service last night, we started with a moment of silent prayer, then followed with the sutra chanting for various spirits, including for the victims of the bombing.

As difficult a time as this may be, we hope for all of us, as Shinnyo practitioners, to have the strength to focus on what we can do in our given place and condition the best way possible.

In One Heart,

Eitaro Hayashi
Temple manager

Send your message to Master Shinjo, Co-Founder of Shinnyo Buddhism

Community Event in Boston

Upcoming Event in NY

Lantern Floating in New York: DATE: September 22nd   Place: “Wollman Rink” in the Central Park, Manhattan New York (Details will be announced later) ·

"Guided Meditation" after some weekend services: This will be an open session to all who come to services, but particularly for guests at services (before they become members and start to receive sesshin), who may be curious and interested in meditation. We plan to try this out in March and April on selected weekend dates, with the first such date being Sat Mar 30 (after the Spring Higan Service). It will be much like the period of meditation everyone experienced in Winter Training, and will be held in the main altar room (Gohozen) right after the service.

"Shinnyo Meditation" : This is also an open opportunity for guests to experience an even deeper level of meditation than the "guided meditation," which is conducted by some of the spiritual guides. It is like a sample of "sesshin training" that practitoners take part, but geared especially for the general public. The next such opportunity will be Sat Apr 27 at 2pm. Registration will soon be made available through the temple office.

"Leaders' meeting" : We will have a special session integrating the lineage parents and the (associate) dharma teachers to discuss key points for our practice in a group setting. We would like to have the first such opportunity on Sun Mar 31 (after sesshin) in place of the Lineage Parents meeting. The topic of discussion will be "Going towards September 2013: Lantern Floating, Higan Service, and the welcoming of the Sacred Busts."

MTC Renovation work マンハッタン布教所改修工事について

As part of our efforts to welcome the “many buddhas” here in NY, we are also going to begin renovations at the MTC soon. We will be closing the center during the renovation period; and once we re-open, we plan to offer more activities than in the past, with an emphasis on events catered to the public. This is one of our efforts to begin identifying our sanctuaries to be more than a place for practitioners of the teachings, a “SHINNYO CENTER” where people in society can touch upon the heart of the Shinnyo Parents and Two Dojis in various ways.
